The movie follows the story of a shy and introverted boy named Max, who is constantly being bullied by a classmate named Jake. Max's mom, Sarah, is a kind and caring woman who is determined to help her son overcome his struggles. When Sarah meets Jake's mom, Karen, at a parent-teacher conference, she is surprised to find that Karen is not the kind of person she expected. Karen is a single mom who is struggling to make ends meet and is worried about her own son's behavior.
