Real love—adult, functional, mature love—is nothing but saying you’re sorry. Love is apologizing for the harsh word, the forgotten anniversary, the selfish moment. By declaring that apologies are unnecessary, Love Story endorses a fantasy where two people magically understand each other so perfectly that no transgression ever requires accountability.
