welcome aboard

Ships of Hagoth is a digital-first literary magazine featuring creative nonfiction and theoretical essays by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Where other LDS-centric publications often look inward at the LDS tradition, we seek literary works that look outward through the curious, charitable lens of faith.

| What Fell Short | Why It Might Disappoint | |------------------|--------------------------| | | The revenge narrative follows a well‑trodden path, offering few surprises. | | Lengthy Second Half | At 150 minutes, some sequences drag, testing patience. | | Limited Female Agency | Meera Jasmine’s character, while well‑acted, remains largely a love‑interest rather than a driving force. |

The 13-year wait for Sundar C’s finally ended with its theatrical release on January 12, 2025 . While the film has become a trending topic on piracy sites like Tamilyogi, it is important to note that as of May 2026, the movie has not yet secured an official OTT release due to lingering logistical and procedural hurdles. The Delayed Release

| Actor | Role | Verdict | |-------|------|---------| | | Raja / Madha Gaja | A promising debut; brings raw intensity and a relatable vulnerability | | Meera Jasmine | Anjali, Raja’s love interest | Provides emotional depth, balancing the film’s aggression with tenderness | | Vijay Sethupathi (cameo) | Sathyan, the ruthless don | A brief but memorable turn, his trademark charisma adds gravitas | | Supporting Cast | Various police officers, gang members | Solid performances that keep the world believable |

IONS

We are hoping—for “one must needs hope”—for creative nonfiction, theoretical essays, and craft essays that seek radical new ways to explore and express theological ideas; that are, like Hagoth, “exceedingly curious.”

We favor creative nonfiction that can trace its lineage back to Michel de Montaigne. Whether narrative, analytical, or devotional, these essays lean ruminative, conversational, meandering, impressionistic, and are reluctant to wax didactic.

As for theoretical essays: we welcome work that playfully and charitably explores the wide world of arts & letters—especially works created from differing religious, non-religious, and even irreligious perspectives—through the peculiar lens of a Latter-day Saint.

We read and publish submissions as quickly as possible, and accept simultaneous submissions.
